Get Creative with Wood Block Ornaments!

Wood block printing has been around since ancient times. There’s just something about the raw, organic look of using a block stamp by hand. The result is an imperfect design with plenty of character. Each one leaves behind a unique imprint with its own personality.

This season we have four Wood Block Ornaments from India! They can be hung on a tree, OR you can create your very own wrapping paper and cards by using it as a stamp.

Let your imagination run wild like an elephant and get creative!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Your favorite Wood Block Ornament
  • Kraft paper or other sturdy, blank rolled paper
  • Acrylic paint in colors of your choice
  • Foam paint brushes OR Speedball® Rubber Brayer (roller)

Wood Block Print Ornaments and Paint

1. Add a small amount of paint to the tip of your brush.

2. Take your Wood Block Ornament and carefully dab the paint on the white, raised edges of the stamp.

3. To create an ombre look, paint half the stamp one color and the other half another color. Slightly overlap the colors in the middle. Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be perfect!

PRO TIP: Avoid getting paint in the recessed (brown) areas of the block.                    If this occurs, the excess paint will distort the design when you                    stamp it.

4. Firmly press the stamp onto the paper, and rock it back and forth to make a solid imprint of the design.

Note: When you wash the acrylic paint off the ornament, the original white paint on the edges will probably come off. If that bothers you, don’t use it as a stamp! Otherwise, enjoy your ornament’s new look.
