Gemstones naturally possess their own set of energy levels that can become attuned with your own energies to bring about the intent you want in your life.

Gold Tiger Eye: attracts helpful people and material things toward you.

Provides balance and harmony in your life. Assists in clear-minded thinking and allows the mind to focus. Ideal for use during stressful periods or when important decision making occurs

Black Tourmaline: A very powerful stone for luck and happiness. Rubbing intensifies the energy charge and doubles your luck.

This stone is very effective in protecting against negative energy by converting it into positive enrgy. It is recommended to keep near or on you at all times and in spaces such as a bedroom

Green Aventurine: A positive stone for luck. Carry one in your pocket for such things as playing the lottery to stimulate money energy.

It can boost your chance for success in almost any situation, from a job interview, new date or big test. It is able to achieve this by releasing old patterns and negativity so new ideas and postivity can come through.

Moonstone: A passionate lucky stone for love associated with the moon and the Goddess Diana.

It is recomended to use moonstone during a full moon to gain the full effect. It is thought to be especially helpful for females

Quartz crystals are extremely energizing and can regulate energy levels. Simply soak them in salt water or hold them over burning incense to cleanse them of unwanted, negative energy. Once you are through with this process, hold them up to the sunlight to restore the energy levels. Roll them around in your hands to activate the energy. Harness your thoughts and focus on what you desire the most, such as forgiveness, inner peace or creativity.

This crystal pendulum can be used as a tool to connect your conscious mind to the subconscious. This can help you make choices that affect your everyday life.

Bone Blog: Sad to the Bone

Screen Shot 2016-08-22 at 2.51.16 PM

It’s that time of year again when we trade in long and sunny days by the water for schedules and uncomfortable desks. As hard as it is to get back into the swing of things, it’s even more “ruff” for our beloved furry friends. Man (or woman’s) best friend spends all summer lounging around or going on adventures with their favorite human. Once the dog days are over, the house gets quiet and the world of a pooch is turned upside down.

Did you know nearly 20% of dogs have separation anxiety? Drastic changes in our schedules can really mess with their emotions and cause them to act out. Excessive barking, whining, scratching at doors, soiling the floor, and chewing (no Fido…Not the sugar skulls!) are all signs of anxiety. Here’s a few tips to make sure your fur baby stays zen while you’re away:

Dog Treat

Earthbound Peace Dog Toy

1. Give your dog a yummy treat or fun toy before you head out the door. We recommend spreading some Dog for Dog Dogsbutter in a hollow toy or dipping a biscuit in it. Unlike regular PB, it’s made without salt, sugar and hydrogenated oils. They’ll never know you left!

2. Leave a TV show or playlist on for some background noise.

3. Take your dog out for some exercise before you leave the house. It will help them get out their extra energy and get your endorphins pumping too!

4. When it’s time to depart, don’t be dramatic. A simple “namaste” and pat on the head is all they need.

We know leaving your dog behind can be difficult. That’s why we love Dog Fridays in the home office! We hope these tips make the transition a little easier.

Bone Blog: Did you know? It’s Not Just Chocolate that is Unsafe for Dogs

Whether you’ve heard it from the vet, loved ones, or on a TV show, you likely know that your pet and chocolate do not mix.  But did you know there is a lengthy list of other foods which our furry friends cannot tolerate?

Dog for Dog     Dog for Dog     Dog for Dog

We found some of the foods surprising, like everyone’s favorite peanut butter.  If you’re like us, you’ve been eating peanut butter since, essentially, the beginning of time. Little did you know that peanut butter is filled with hydrogenated oils and sugars which can be harmful to your pet.  Next time you want to hide bitter tasting medication in a spoonful of peanut butter or want to give your pooch a treat, be sure to use Dog For Dog’s Dogsbutter instead. Dogsbutter is not only an all natural and healthy alternative to peanut butter, but it tastes great too! (Yes, we tried it.)

We are proud to announce that Dog For Dog treats, butters and bars are available at all Earthbound Trading Co. locations! Stop by and grab your dog’s new favorite treat today! For every product we sell, Dog For Dog will donate a product to a dog in need!

Check out some of the other surprising foods your pet should avoid below:

Milk and Dairy Products:

Believe it or not, dogs can be lactose intolerant.  While you don’t need to buy your pooch almond or soy milk, it is important to switch your pet’s diet if you notice them vomiting or having diarrhea.

Coffee, Tea, and Other Caffeine:

Sure, it’s a part of most people’s morning routine, but coffee, tea, and caffeine should not be a part of our pet’s day.  Caffeine poisoning can result in heart palpitations, muscle tremors, and even death when consumed in large quantities.  Be sure to keep your medicine cabinet locked up as well, because some cold medicines and pain killers contain caffeine; not to mention those medications can be lethal to your pet.

Avocados:

‘Chips and guac’ may be one of your favorite snacks but avocados contain a substance which is toxic to pets known as persin.  Persin is in the leaves, seed and bark, as well as the actual fruit of an avocado, so keep that in mind if there are avocado trees nearby. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty (ASPCA) says that pet foods containing avocado ingredients are generally not hazardous, but when it comes to your pet, it’s better to err on the side of caution, no?

Onions and Garlic:

Dropping food, accidentally of course, for our four-legged friends to taste is a frequent occurrence when cooking up good eats.  But drop the wrong thing, like scallions, garlic, shallots, or onions and your treat may turn unpleasant in a hurry.  These foods are known to destroy red-blood cells in your pet which can lead to anemia.

Xylitol:

It may be best known as an alternative to sugar, but little do many of us know, xylitol is a sweetener in candy, gum, and toothpaste.  Xylitol can make your dog’s blood sugar drop and cause insulin to increase, resulting in liver failure.  Symptoms can include vomiting, lethargy, and loss of coordination.  If you have reason to believe that your pet ate any form of xylitol, bring them to your vet immediately.

Mushrooms:

We’re not talking about the fungi you buy from the market, it’s the wild mushrooms often found in your yard that can cause distress to your dog. Mushroom poisoning can happen as a result of consumption with symptoms that include fever, vomiting, and nervous system abnormalities.

Corn:

There are several reasons why corn isn’t safe for your pet to consume, most importantly because it is a known allergen that affects dogs.  It isn’t easily digested in its whole grain form and adds no nutritional value to your dog’s diet.  Keep this for your summertime BBQs and far from your dog’s bowl.

Curiosity Shop: An Interview with the Buyer

It would not be summer at Earthbound without Curiosity Shop! In its 4th incarnation, this summer’s story is catching everyone’s eye as they pass by the store. We sat down once again with home décor buyer Justin to find out what curious happenings have been popping up!

Curiosity Shop

Curiosity Shop

Q: What makes this 4th installment of Curiosity Shop different from previous ones?

A: The core of Curiosity Shop is composed of items that make you want to do a double take. Unique, eclectic, strange are just a few words we have used to describe this story over the years. This year is certainly no different!

With this 4th installment I wanted to bring a color pallet of metallics and blues. I have been obsessed with gold all year and knew I had to bring it to Curiosity Shop. That gold skull is one of my favorite pieces! The choice of bringing in different shades of blue was sparked from the love of the octopus. As a motif the octopus has continued to do well for us so I thought it would be great to see some ocean inspired colors brought in to help round out the story.

There also is a small theme of scale. Taking the same item and doing it in a small size and an extra large size. Science and geometric themes play a role as well. From the Galileo thermometer and Fitzroy Storm Glass barometer to those AWESOME geometric candle holders!  Also check out those globes with the metallic finishes! Very cool!

Finally I was excited to throw some textiles in to the mix this year. We are offering four pillow styles that are super unique and that will add some serious curiosity to any sofa!

Curiosity Shop  Curiosity Shop

Q: How do you decide what theme or color pallet to use with this type of product story?

A: The majority of time it only takes one item to set the wheels in motion. This time the metal octopus candle holder provided a great starting point. The color and the motif was perfect! From there my obsession with gold and anything metallic really got the ball rolling.

Q: Now for the question that is on everyone’s mind. What is NEXT for Curiosity Shop?

A: Hahaha. Hmmm…well for next year’s story we will see Curiosity Shop take a trip with Mother Nature. And that is what I will leave you with! Expect the unexpected!!!

Happy Holi & St. Patrick’s Day!

Today is a day for celebrating. It’s Saint Patrick’s Day AND it’s the Hindu celebration of Holi!

Holi is a spring festival, celebrating the beginning of the new season. It’s also known as the “festival of colors” or the “festival of love”. Primarily observed in India, Nepal and other regions with large Hindu populations, Holi is a bit of a colorful free-for-all. Chasing each other with colorful powder and colored water, anyone is fair game to be covered in colors!

Saint Patrick’s Day was made an official Christian feast day in the early seventeenth century, honoring Ireland’s patron saint. While still a religious holiday today, the day has also become a celebration of Irish culture and heritage. Parades, festivals, wearing the color green, traditional Irish music, and a fair bit of alcohol consumption all play a part in the celebration of this holiday.

What and how are you celebrating today?
