Behind the Scenes: Spring Dream

In February, our creative team got together to produce the photos for our Spring Dream apparel collection. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t get the memo that we were channeling Spring, and we caught a freak Dallas snow storm. Our set was a vacant brake shop in Deep Ellum, and central heating is not one of its amenities. We made do with propane heaters and chilly models, but we got great photos for the collection despite the weather! Major props to our models for toughing it out in the cold. Be sure to check out our behind the scenesSpring Fling video too!

EB Spotlight: Kat at Charleston & Boulder

Before Kat transferred to Charleston, South Carolina, we interviewed her when she was in charge of our store on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado. You might remember that she helped us out with our Guide to our Favorite Places for Boulder! A great new manager has taken the reins at Boulder, but Kat is still rockin’ it for Earthbound as the store manager of our location on King Street in Charleston. We’re finally featuring Kat’s interview, and we’re excited for you all to get to know her a bit better!

Earthbound Team Spotlight: Kat at Charleston

Q: Describe yourself in ten words or less:
A: Love, Laughter, and the Pursuit of Glitter

Q: What do you love about working for Earthbound?
A: There is so much! I love everyone I work with from my team all the way up through store support; it is so great to actually enjoy coming to work and interacting with my co-workers. I also love the merchandise we sell, as anyone could tell if they walked into my home. Another aspect I love is being able to travel and see the different parts of the country and our company. However, the most enjoyable part of my job is seeing the people I have trained learn, grow, and succeed.

Q: What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not at work?
A: Hands-down favorite thing to do is going to concerts and festivals, which is great with Red Rocks nearby. I also have a 7-month-old miniature longhair Dachshund puppy named Luna, and she’s one of my favorite things too…most of the time.

Q: What song have you been jamming out to lately?
A: Oh I hate to narrow it down! I listen to everything from bluegrass to rap, but I’m really into Wild Belle right now. I just love that brassy instruments are becoming more prevalent in today’s music.

Q: What’s your greatest dream in life?
A: Backup dancer for Beyoncé??? Maybe a more achievable dream of mine, though, is to someday live in Scotland. But, after I have retired from backup dancing of course.

Q: You’re stranded on a desert island. Excluding food, water and means of escape, what three items (one being an Earthbound product) would you take?
A: LUNA! I need a companion; she can be my Wilson. I would also bring a Swiss Army knife because I’m sure it would come in handy; maybe get the deluxe version with the solar panel. From Earthbound, I would bring the Tree of Life tapestry beacause it’s so soft. I could make a tent, a blanket, a dress, a hat, a puppy bed, just so much out of it!

EB Team Spotlight: Amber at Battlefield Mall

We’ve been looking forward to sharing our interview with Amber, the manager of our store location atBattlefield Mall in Springfield, Missouri! She’s so good at what she does, and clearly has her priorities in order. We’re lucky to have Amber on our team! Read on to learn a little about this awesome lady.

EB Team Spotlight on Amber at Battlefield Mall in Springfield, MO

Q: Describe yourself in ten words or less:
A: Motivated, faith seeking, family oriented, fandom lovin’ kind of woman.

Q: What do you love about working for Earthbound?
A: There is nothing that I love more than working for a company that makes me really enjoy my time spent there. We get some of the most interesting people coming in through our doors, whether it be customers or staff. I love the fact that I can walk up to customer expecting to teach them about our unique products, and have them share so much more with me!

Q: What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not at work?
A: My favorite thing to do when I’m not at work is to curl up in my coziest chair with a good book, a warm drink, and one of my cats. I tend to surround myself with books, and love getting lost in their pages.

Q: What song have you been jamming out to lately?
A: I am currently obsessively listening to Alabama Shakes, Imagine Dragons, and AWOLNATION. I will listen to the same albums on repeat until I am thoroughly tired of them, and it hasn’t happened yet with these three.

Q: What’s your greatest dream in life?
A: To make sure that my family is happy and well cared for.

Q: You’re stranded on a desert island. Excluding food, water and means of escape, what three items (one being an Earthbound product) would you take?
A: The first thing I would need would be a tarp. I feel like I could come up with countless uses for it (even if just to make shelter). I would also bring along my family. I’m going to count that as one thing and include my cats so I don’t get lonely. My family is full of smart, creative people, so I feel like we could survive together. And finally, I would bring along one of our large Bali drums, so at the very least we could entertain ourselves by making a desert island band!

Earthbound Office Style

Yesterday, we caught several ladies in the Earthbound office wearing past or current Earthbound styles. It’s always fun to see how our garments and accessories get worn in the “real world”! These seven ladies each purchased much of her outfit from the same store and wore it to the same place on the same day, but every one has her own sense of style that shines through.

Can you tell by their attire that Fall weather hasn’t quite struck Dallas, Texas yet? Still, it’s no longer quite Summer, so boots and layers are beginning to make an appearance!

PUSHKAR: Kara’s Buying Trip in India

As Clothing Buyer at Earthbound, bi-annual trips to India are highly anticipated. These are week-long trips full of plane rides, car rides, camel rides and lots and lots of walking. On this particular recent trip, we traveled to Pushkar (a short plane ride and a long car ride away from Delhi) to visit with one of our great suppliers for a day.

Pushkar Landscape

That morning we woke up early and hit the road by 7 AM to fit in some quick sight-seeing. We drove through what appeared to be “downtown”, if you can call it that. Our funny driver was apologizing for all of the “anie-malies” that were holding up traffic. We were too busy snapping photos to notice.

When we reached the temple at the main gate to Pushkar Lake, we removed our shoes and stepped onto a balcony overlooking the sacred water. We enjoyed our brief history lesson, learning of Brahma and other Gods. We then partook in a cleansing ritual, repeating mantras and splashing some water onto our foreheads, noses and ears. We made a wish, tossed some rose petals into the lake and continued our short but beautiful tour of the city.

After seeing another temple, we stumbled upon some camels and talked our way into a camel ride. Though brief, we had a blast and our morning was made!

Camels in Pushkar

By 10 AM we were on the way to our supplier’s factory. Once there, we browsed the seemingly endless showroom, pulling sample after sample to add to our list of must-haves.

When the model arrived, we made ourselves comfortable with a cup of Chai tea (which may be my favorite part of any India trip) and began the real work. As the model tried each garment on, we snapped photos and made notes on any details we wanted to change; a raised hemline here, a different button there.

Hours later we were ready for a tour of the fabric rooms. We did pretty much the same thing there, pulling any print or fabric type we liked for clothing, purses, or even headbands. We then got back to work creating custom shapes and designs to put into development. Multiple chai teas, some quick henna and 100,000,000 swatches later, the day was over. It was finally time to have a drink and hit the hay to prepare for another long day of work ahead.

Behind the Scenes: Curiosity Shop

Take a peek behind the scenes on our recent Curiosity Shop photo shoot in a vacant building on Deep Ellum in Dallas. Formerly the Art Bar & Cafe, this space was perfect for our shoot, with natural light and interesting textures in great supply.

We just had to clean it a bit first… The asthmatics among us insisted on a run to the drug store for face masks. It was a little ridiculously dusty up in there.

There’s always lots of product to organize on home decor shoots! Not to mention lots of product to transport to our location.

Earthbound Behind the Scenes - Props

Props are essential. What looks like the contents of a Natural History Museum went back home after the shoot with our home goods buyer, but we each got to take a baby succulent home!

There may or may not have been a few jokes cracked on set about the new ceramic acupuncture models. What can we say? They have cute butts.

If you’re the only person to show up on set in cute clothing, it may also mean being asked to model new necklaces.

We finished the day very dusty, but very happy with the images we captured! Be sure to check out the Curiosity Shop collection and see the fruits of our labor! It’s a ridiculously cool collection.

Art Features: Genesis, The Gift of Life

At our last photo shoot, we made a stop at this beautiful mosaic at the Dallas Museum of Art in downtown Dallas.

"Genesis, the Gift of Life" by Miguel Covarrubias

Created by Miguel Covarrubius in 1954, this sixty-foot long mosaic entitled, “Genesis, the Gift of Life” is a Dallas landmark. Per the Dallas Museum of Art, “Genesis is based on an ancient Mexican myth that four worlds preceded the world we currently live in. According to the myth, four principal deities controlled the four elements—water, earth, fire, and air—and each god destroyed the world once using their element. The gods then worked together to create the fifth, or current world.”

The gorgeous glass tiles made a perfect backdrop for our “Color Craze” themed feature! It’s awe-inspiring to imagine how much work went into placing so many individual glass pieces.
